How to flatlay for instagram
I've been getting a few comments on my instagram about how to achieve the perfect flatlay which is one of the reasons I decided to make this post.Before I started my blog I was really fascinated with how my favorite blogging duo desires by us achieved such great images, their style really inspires me because of the clarity of their images so here's how I achieve mine.
When it comes to shooting my flatlays I either shoot with my iphone 6 or my nikon d3100 (I've had enough of this crusty Nikon i'm going to to upgrade to canon) for my blog I prefer my nikon but this all depends on convenience.
I mainly focus on the colour and the lighting as this is hard to perfect in cloudy British weather.
Natural lighting should be your BFF to get the best images, if you don't have natural light at your disposal investing in studio lights are great tool to have you can buy them relatively cheap on ebay.
The most tricky thing about flatlay is the placement, if the placement is off the image will not look natural, I like to place the main focus of the image closer to the camera, I also pay close attention to featuring items with complimentary colours so they work well together.
The best angles for these are usually up above or to the side also the more angles you use the more you can re use the same image further along on your instagram feed.
I usually mix homeware items and magazines and these work well for visuals. But feel free to mix and match items that fit your instagram style.
